Lausanne Museums

A series of museums are on offer for tourists visiting Lausanne, many of which are located within parkland settings, gardens and historical buildings. Dedicated solely to everything to do with science fiction, La Maison d'Ailleurs is amongst the most unique museums in Lausanne and covers topics such as aliens, the future and Utopia.

Those interested in the past will enjoy a visit to the Musée Historique de Lausanne (Lausanne Museum of History) alongside the cathedral, where an intricate scale model of the city as it appeared in the 17th century is a definite highlight. Surrounded by mature trees and exotic flowers, the Musée Olympique (Olympic Museum) stands in the Ouchy area of Lausanne and enjoys a particularly tranquil setting. Inside, visitors a treated to an exhibition covering all aspects of the Olympic Games and its rich heritage. Actual Olympic torches, medals and golden laurel wreathes are just some of the exhibits on display.


Children should be sure to check out the fun-filled Espace des Inventions (Space Invention Museum), where they get plenty of opportunities to interact with the topics covered. Adults will enjoy the extensive collection of medieval coins and Swiss treasures at the Cabinet Cantonal des Médailles, on the Place de la Riponne.
